RICHARD WAGNER: PARSIFAL: ACT III
CD-1067(1)
Writes David Breckbill in his liner notes: "?he intensity
and unanimity of the orchestral playing of this Parsifal Act 3 makes
it one of the most atypical of Knappertsbusch's studio recordings.
Rather bright recorded sound may contribute to this impression, but
the tempo, marginally quicker than was Knappertsbusch's general tendency
in the theatre, is translated by the orchestra into flexibly urgent
utterance. This account…never sounds under-involved or uncomprehending
as Knappertsbusch's orchestras sometimes do in the studio."
