BUZZ: The best of Bach's fugues on a single subject are contrasted with fugues likewise on a single subject by some of his prominent contemporaries and predecessors.

COLIN TILNEY plays harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano; he is known for his many solo recordings on Decca, Deutsche Grammophon (Archive), EMI Electrola, Hyperion, Dorian and CBC SM 5000. Recently he has added to this list a set of six Mozart fortepiano discs on the Toronto label doremi. With the flautist Elissa Poole, he is the founder of Les Coucous Bénévoles, a chamber group specialising in both Early Music repertoire and commissions from today's composers. - Since 2002, Colin Tilney has lived in British Columbia, Canada, where he teaches on the music faculty of the University of Victoria.

This is Colin Tilney's third release on Music and Arts, following the widely acclaimed 1993 Bach English Suites, recorded on the same Italian harpsichord as Fugue, and the 1995 CD Scarlatti High and Low.
