All but one of the performances here was given with the SWF Orchestra in Baden-Baden, trained by one of the great champions of modern music, Hans Rosbaud. The booklet contains extensive notes on "Stravinsky the Conductor" based on archival interviews with Stravinsky's long-time associate Robert Craft, the composers Elliott Carter, Virgil Thomson, and Lukas Foss, the musicologists Claudio Spies and Lawrence Morton, and the dancer and actress Vera Zorina. |
